JINDO, South Korea, Oct. 29 (Yonhap) — The families of passengers still officially listed as missing from the sunken ferry Sewol demanded Wednesday that the government come up with a thorough plan to find and recover the bodies.

한국 진도, 10월 29일(연합) – 침몰한 세월호 실종자 명단에 공식적으로 아직 이름이 올라 있는 승객들의 가족들이 수요일, 정부에 시신 발견과 수습을 위한 철저한 계획을 세워줄 것을 요구했다.

The call came after a badly decomposed body was discovered inside the submerged ship Tuesday afternoon, more than six months after the ferry sank in waters off the southwestern island of Jindo, leaving more than 300 people dead in one of the country’s deadliest maritime disasters. The discovery also came 102 days after the last body was found on the ill-fated ship.

The body, the 295th to be retrieved from the ship, has been initially identified as 17-year-old Hwang Ji-hyun, a Danwon High School student who was seen on the fourth floor deck by survivors.

Officials at the site said the identification was made by allowing the father of the student to check a photo taken of her body, and through cross-referencing height, shoe size and clothing worn by the deceased.

이 학생의 아버지에게 시신의 사진을 확인할 수 있도록 하고 신장, 신발사이즈 그리고 사망자가 입고 있던 옷을 상호 대조하여 신원확인이 됐다고 현장 관계자는 말했다.

Authorities said they plan to carry out a DNA test to be certain of the identity of the victim.

관계자는 희생자의 신원을 명확하게 하기 위해서 DNA테스트를 실시할 예정이라고 말했다.

The discovery leaves only nine people unaccounted for.

이 시신발견으로 9명의 실종자만이 남았다.

Meanwhile, the families demanded in a press release that the government review the search plan for November and come up with a new and thorough way of finding the missing people.

한편, 정부가 11월의 수색계획을 재고하여 새롭고 철저한 방식으로 실종자를 찾을수 있는 방법을 제시해줄 것을 가족들은 보도자료를 통해 요구했다.

On Monday, the family members said they had voted against salvaging the ship and asked the government to continue its search operation.

지난 월요일, 가족들은 선박의 인양에 반대 투표를 했으며 정부에 수색 작업을 지속해 줄것을 요청했다고 말했다.

The outcome of the vote was made public hours after a private diving company announced its decision to pull out of the joint operation with the government and military after three months, citing “various circumstances.”

3개월간의 정부, 그리고 군대와 함께 합동작전을 벌였던 개인 잠수회사가 “여러가지 사정”으로 철수를 결정했다고 발표한 몇 시간 후 이 투표결과가 공개됐다.

Some experts had speculated that the bodies of those who are still missing may not be in the ship and may have been carried away by currents, making further searches unnecessary.

The 6,825-ton ferry Sewol sank April 16 en route to the southern resort island of Jeju. Of the total number of people on board, most of whom were high school students, only 174 were rescued.

6,825톤의 세월호는 4월 16일 남쪽 휴양섬 제주로 향하던 중 침몰했다. 고등학교 학생들이 대부분인 승선했던 총인원 중 174명만이 구조됐다.
