샌프란시스코 노동위원회, 김어준 주진우 무죄선고를 위한 결의문

-“정부의 억압과 괴롭힘 없이 언론인이 일할 수 있도록…무죄선고 요구”

-결의문 한국 영사관에 전달 예정

1월 16일 판결을 앞둔 김어준 딴지일보 총수와 시사인의 주진우 기자 두 언론인에 대한 지지 및 ‘무죄선고’를 위한 결의문이 샌프란시스코 노동위원회에 의해 채택되어 한국영사관에 전달될 예정이다.

샌프란시스코 노동위원회는 “한국사법부에 두명의 언론인에 대한 무죄판결을 촉구”하고, “모든 국가에서 언론인들이 정부의 탄압이나 괴롭힘 없이 자신들의 일을 할 수 있는 권리를 가질 것을 지지”함을 명시하는 편지를 한국 정부 그리고 검찰에 보낼 것을 결의하고 이 결의문을 한국영사관에 전달하기로 합의했다

노동문제와 언론노조를 위해 일하는 미국인 활동가 스티브 젤저(Steve Zeltzer)씨가 뉴스프로에 제보해온 바에 따르면, 교원노조원 로져 스콧이 금요일 오후 샌프란시스코 한국 영사관에 이 결의문을 전달할 것이며 노동위원회는 금요일 오후 2시 영사관 앞에서 기자회견을 가질 예정이다.

이미 뉴스프로가 진행해 온 두 언론인 무죄선고를 위한 청원서에는 전세계 3만여명의 시민들이 서명했고, 서명자수는 계속 증가하고 있다.

Resolution for the Acquittal of Korean Investigative Journalists Kim Oujoon and Choo Chinwoo

한국 탐사기자 김어준, 주진우의 무죄선고를 지원하는 결의문

Whereas, the need to defend the freedom of press and the right of journalists to do their work

is essential for labor and the public; and

언론의 자유, 그리고 언론인들의 일할 권리를 수호하는 것은 노동과 대중을 위해 필수적이다.

Whereas, trade unionists and journalists in South Korea have faced continuous attacks on

their democratic rights, including the attacks on the Korean Railway Workers Union KRWU

and the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions KCTU; and

한국의 노동조합인들과 언론인들은 자신들의 민주 권리에 대해 지속적으로 공격을 받아왔으며, 이에는 한국철도노조와 민주노총에 대한 공격도 포함된다.

Whereas, the need to protect democratic rights in order to inform the public about issues such

as privatization and deregulation of the economy is critical for the protection of workers and

the public and,

경제에 있어서 민영화와 규제완화와 같은 문제들에 대해 대중에게 알리기 위해 민주권리를 수호하는 것은 노동자들과 대중을 보호하는 데에 있어 매우 중요하다.

Whereas, there have been increasing efforts to silence journalists and reporters who are

exposing criminal activity and corruption; and

범죄행위와 부패를 폭로하는 언론인들과 기자들을 침묵시키려는 시도들이 점점 증가해왔다.

Whereas, Korean journalists Kim Oujoon and Choo Chinwoo, who were investigating the

murders of two people connected to a family Yookyoung Foundation of President Park

Geun-hye, continue to be prosecuted by the government despite an earlier acquittal; and

한국 박근혜 대통령의 가족이 운영하는 육영재단에 관계된 두 사람의 살해를 조사하던 한국 언론인, 김어준씨와 주진우씨는 1심의 무죄평결에도 불구하고 정부에 의해 계속 기소되고 있다.

Whereas, after these two journalists had been acquitted by a jury in the first trial in October, 2013, the prosecution appealed to a higher court and demanded two years and three years in prison for Mr. Kim and Mr. Choo, respectively; and

2013년 10월 첫 배심원 재판에서 두 언론인들은 무죄평결을 받은 후 검찰은 항소를 했고, 김어준과 주진우에게 각각 2년과 3년 징역형을 구형했다.

Whereas, when the government blocks journalists’ rights to raise questions and suspicions concerning criminal cases, just because a relative of the president is involved in a case, the government is undermining the social responsibility of journalism; and

대통령의 친척이 사건에 연루되었다고 해서 정부가 언론인들이 범죄 사건에 대해 의문과 의심을 제기할 권리를 차단한다면 그 정부는 저널리즘의 사회적 책임을 훼손하는 것이다.

Whereas, journalists investigating the Sewol ferry disaster and other incidents due to lax health and safety standards and deregulation have also faced harassment; and

안이한 보건 및 안전 기준들과 규제완화 때문에 발생한 세월호 참사와 기타 사건들을 탐사하는 언론인들 역시 위협을 받아왔다.

Whereas, the Korean National Union of Media Workers has called the arrests and prosecution unjust; and

한국언론노조는 체포와 기소는 정당하지 않다고 선언했다.

Whereas, these attacks have been combined with further repressive actions such as the banning by the government courts of opposition political parties, including the Unified Progressive Party and prosecution of their members; and

이러한 공격들은 통합진보당과 당원들에 대한 기소를 포함한 야당에 대한 헌법재판소의 해산명령과 같은 또 다른 억압적인 조치들로 이어져 왔다.

Whereas, it is important that the Labor Movement and the American people oppose suppression of democratic rights and the freedom of association,

<노동 운동>과 미국인들이 민주적 권리와 결사의 자유에 대한 탄압을 반대하는 것은 중요하다.

Therefore be it Resolved the San Francisco Labor Council calls for the Korean prosecutor and Korean government to end the prosecution of these journalists and for their acquittal, including the dropping of all charges, and this council will send a letter to the San Francisco Korean Consulate and send a delegation before January 16, 2015 as well as sending letters to the prosecutors and urge other affiliated bodies to take similar action and

그러므로 샌프란시스코 노동위원회는 한국 검찰과 한국 정부가 이 언론인들에 대한 기소를 중단하고 모든 기소철회를 포함한 무죄를 선고할 것, 그리고 위원회는 2015년 1월 16일 이전에 검찰에 뿐 아니라 샌프란시스코 한국영사관에 편지를 보내고 대표단을 파견할 것이며 다른 연대 기구들에 비슷한 행동을 취하도록 촉구할 것을 결의한다. 그리고

Be it Finally Resolved that this Council will send letters of support to the South Korean Judicial System urging the acquittal of these two journalists and stating that the San Francisco Labor Council supports the right of journalists in all countries to do their work without government repression and harassment.

마지막으로 위원회는 한국사법부에 두명의 언론인에 대한 무죄판결을 촉구하고, 아울러 샌프란시스코 노동위원회는 모든 국가에서 언론인들이 정부의 탄압이나 괴롭힘 없이 자신들의 일을 할 수 있는 권리를 가질 것을 지지한다고 명시하는 지지 편지를 보낼 것을 결의한다.
