더민주당을 포함한 한국의 야당들이 지난해 박근혜 정부와 아베 정부가 맺은 ‘위안부’재단 설립을 거부하며 동시에 서울에 위치한 일본 대사관 앞에 설치된 소녀상을 철거하라는 일본의 요청도 반대하는 등 한일 합의 자체에 대해 비난의 강도를 높이고 있다고 재팬타임스(The Japan Times)가 지지통신 기사를 받아 4일 보도했다.

SEOUL – South Korean opposition parties have rejected the establishment last week of a foundation to provide aid to former “comfort women” under a Tokyo-Seoul agreement reached in December.

서울 – 한국의 야당들은 12월 성사된 한-일 합의에 따른 지난주 “위안부” 피해 여성을 돕기 위한 재단설립을 거부했다.

They are also stepping up criticism of the agreement itself and Japan’s request for the removal of a girl’s statue set up in front of the Japanese Embassy in Seoul as a symbol of the Korean females who were forced to work in wartime Japanese military brothels.

한국의 야당들은 아울러 전시 일본군 군위안소에서 일하도록 강요받았던 한국 여성들에 대한 상징으로서 서울 일본 대사관 앞에 세워진 소녀상을 철거하라는 일본의 요청과 한일 합의 자체에 대해 비난의 강도를 높였다.

In a statement, Minjoo Party of Korea, the largest opposition force, criticized the Japanese government for taking the position that its pledge of ¥1 billion for the foundation was not compensation and claiming the removal of the statue was part of the bilateral accord.

제1야당인 한국의 더민주는 성명서에서, 일본 정부가 재단을 위해 약속한 10억 엔이 보상이 아니라는 입장을 취하고 있고 또한 소녀상 철거는 쌍방합의의 일부였다고 주장하는 점에 대해 일본 정부를 비난했다.

The party urged the South Korean government not to allow Japan to link the ¥1 billion pledge to the removal of the comfort women statue.

더민주당은 일본 정부가 10억엔 출연과 위안부 소녀상 철거를 연계짓지 못하도록 할 것을 한국 정부에 촉구했다.

The party also pressed the government to consider dissolving the new foundation, arguing that it had lost its intended purpose, given that Japan wants the money to be used for investment in the future, rather than as compensation to the former comfort women.

더민주당은 또한 이 기금이 위안부 여성들에 대한 보상이 아니라 미래에 대한 투자로 사용되기를 일본이 원한다는 점을 고려할 때 새로운 재단은 이미 그 의도된 목적을 상실한 것이라고 주장하며 이를 없애도록 한국 정부에 압력을 가했다.

The second-largest opposition force, the People’s Party, issued a statement on Wednesday insisting that the comfort women foundation was forcibly established, while it remained uncertain when Japan will provide the ¥1 billion, which is essential for running the foundation.

두 번째로 큰 야당인 국민의당은 수요일 성명에서, 재단 운영에 필요한 10억 엔이 언제 출연될 지도 모르는데 재단 설립이 강행됐다고 주장했다.

The removal of the statue appears to be a condition for the donation, the party said. It stressed that the statue should not be removed for any reason.

소녀상 철거가 10억엔 출연의 조건으로 보인다고 국민의당은 말했다. 국민의당은 어떤 이유로도 소녀상이 철거되어서는 안 된다고 강조했다.
